IEA Energy Efficiency Conference: Accelerate Energy Efficiency Process to Cope with Energy Crisis
From 7th to 9th June, the 7th Annual Conference
on Energy Efficiency, jointly organized by the International Energy Agency and
the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, was held in Sonderborg. Ministers
and industry leaders from all over the world gathered in the small town in
Southern Denmark to discuss how to promote the implementation of energy
efficiency solutions.
The conference focused on how to quickly take actions to reduce energy
consumption, so as to reduce energy costs and the dependence on energy imports,
push forward the achievement of climate goals, support employment and promote
economic growth. The International Energy Agency issued an analysis report
during the conference, emphasizing the importance of energy efficiency solutions,
especially in mitigating the soaring energy prices, strengthening energy safety
and coping with climate change.
Fatih Birol, director general of the International Energy Agency, said in his speech that ‘energy efficiency is the key solution to many urgent challenges that the world facing. It can make the energy supply economical, safer and more sustainable. We need to take immediate action together to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency programs.’
Dan Jorgensen, Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities of Denmark,
said in his speech, ‘Now we should consider how to carry out more energy
efficiency solutions and technologies in the world. Leaders of energy and
climate come to the conference to make their important step in the right
direction together.’
8th June was the main meeting day of the conference. The
participants discussed the future of constructions, study of energy consumption
behavior and how to promote the implementation of energy efficiency through
financing. On 9th June, a special close-door meeting was held to share the
experience of promoting the energy efficiency process. The city of Sonderborg
also held a number of technical exhibitions so that participants could visit
and learn about the success stories of energy efficiency.
